Evaluation of Yield Potential and Combining Ability in Thai Elite Cassava Varieties for Breeding Selection

Cassava breeding is a critical aspect of sustainable agriculture to address the challenges food security and climate change. The present study aimed assess combining ability six Thai cassava elite varieties for four key traits, including fresh root yield (FRY), shoot (FSY), harvest index (HI) starch content (SC) through an analysis diallel mating design over two years. Parental lines HB80 R5 showed significant positive general (GCA) effects high SC; R1 low FSY; FRY HI. genetic FSY, SC HI were primarily influenced by GCA progenitors, while specific (SCA) was more important than other three traits. Cultivation conditions also found impact evaluation effects, with poor growing environment affecting expression genotype. This provides useful basis selection parental programs insights into control related traits in germplasm.
